When to go: seasons by species

Billfish are caught in every month, but most sources point to the dry season, roughly November to April, as the best window.

Two seasons, not four

El Salvador has a dry season from about November to April and a rainy season from about May to October. The U.S. State Department notes that flooding and landslides are common in the rainy season (May–October) and that hurricane season runs June through November[1]. Afternoon storms are the usual pattern; one third-party guide says rainy-season mornings are often sunny, with choppier seas and lower prices[2].

Reported peak windows

We found no official catch statistics by month for recreational fishing. The table below shows what published sources say, side by side, so you can see where they agree and where they don't. Treat the shaded months as "reported good", not as a guarantee.

Dates worth knowing

Picking your month

If billfish are the goal and you want the calmest, driest weather, aim for December through March, the overlap of every source above. If you care more about price and don't mind afternoon rain, the rainy season still offers dorado, tuna and inshore fishing, and it is the only window cited for tarpon. Wherever you land, ask your captain what has been biting in the past two weeks; local reports change faster than any guide. See how to book.
